Lyra’s Lullaby

Out among the waves,
In a far off land.
Lived a mother and daughter
Who played by the sand.

They dipped and dived,
Through the waves with such grace.
For they instead of legs,
Had tails in their place.

They splished and splashed,
With joyous abound.
When all of a sudden,
Came a thunderous sound!

The lightning flashed,
From the sky into the sea.
To close for comfort,
The two had to flee.

“Come now dear Lyra,
We must get home in a hurry”
They dived underwater,
Through currents they did scurry.

She held tight to Lyra,
And hoped for the best.
Running out of strength,
Lyra slipped from her chest.

Into the storm,
The child was tossed.
She swore she would find her,
No matter the cost.

Hours had past,
And the storm had died.
With no daughter to cherish,
The mother just cried.

Above her sobs,
She heard a tone.
She thought for a moment,
She may not be alone.

Through the mist,
She followed the song.
The soothing melody,
Drove her along.

She collapsed on the bank.
Head in her hand.
She looked up to see,
Something magical and grand.

A Mermaid was there,
With Lyra on her fin.
The Mermaid looked down
With an all knowing grin.

Mother and daughter,
Shared a sweet embrace.
But the mermaid never spoke,
Not a word left her face.

The music continued,
As they swam out of sight.
But the mermaid kept playing,
For anyone lost in the night.
